Harden Our Perimeters. Protect Our Children. Dismantle the Pipeline.
Secure Our Schools Michigan — Join parents, educators, students, and citizens demanding immediate enactment of Proposed Sections 1308f–1308i.
Students, parents, and teachers have had enough.
Michigan school communities are exhausted from navigating a double threat: while living in constant anxiety over external attacks from violent intruders—who do not care about student handbooks or gun-free zone signs—they are simultaneously forced to navigate internal, emotionally reactive administrative decisions.
Driven by fear of civil liability, subjective administrative practices regularly bypass legally established Michigan restorative practice standards, funneling students directly into the juvenile justice system for minor behavioral disruptions. Soft targets invite danger, and subjective guesswork compromises student futures.
It is time to Secure Our Schools Michigan.
We, the undersigned Michigan parents, educators, students, and citizens, petition the Governor and the Michigan State Legislature to immediately enact Proposed Sections 1308f through 1308i to the Revised School Code (1976 PA 451):
Replace subjective administrative fear with standardized, metric-based incident reporting that protects student civil rights and halts improper juvenile justice referrals.
Mandate single-point entry armed security, instant interior lockdown hardware, mandatory body-worn camera transparency, and binding MOUs prohibiting officers from handling routine classroom discipline.
Mandate annual public board presentations detailing threat metrics, body-worn camera audit logs, and physical facility security audits.
Establish a permanent, non-lapsing state treasury grant fund to equip school districts with physical perimeter defense resources.
